Ecotourism replaced an aggressive and unsustainable industry based on the killing of thousands of turtles in the 1970s and 80s on the pacific coast of southern Mexico. The village of Ventanilla in the state of Oaxaca is now a place where turtles and crocodiles are protected and raised. These crocodile babies are about 3 months old and about 15 cm long - when they grow up they will be around 2m long!
